ANNE STUBBE

Chocolatier & Pastry Chef

I am the first female chef in the six generations of chocolatiers and pastry chefs in the Stubbe family.

I draw much of my inspiration from my Tante Liesel, my mothers aunt, who was the fifth generation of pastry chefs on the Meyring / Beckmann side of my family. Chef Liesel was the first female Master Pastry Chef in Germany after the Second World War. She ran the family pastry shop for many years and was a strong woman, passionate about pastry and generous in spirit.

Coming from two families that had a strong pastry tradition it seemed obvious for me to become a Chef. I did my apprenticeship in pastry and chocolate in my hometown Ibbenbueren, Germany where I worked as a chef until I immigrated to Canada in 2002. I joined my father, Chef Heinrich Stubbe, in Ottawa at his chocolate shop in the Byward Market, where I worked with him for twelve years. As my passion for chocolates from around the world, the texture of nougat and the flavour of marzipan grew, I knew it was time for me to explore these wonderful ingredients in my own kitchen.

I am truly excited to open my chocolate and pastry boutique in Kanata. I look forward to developing a close connection with my clientele and the community. This is a new culinary adventure for me and I hope to share my family heritage with as many people as possible, and convert new people to the love of all things chocolate.
