Our culinary philosophy is deeply rooted in sustainability. Decision-making around all aspects of operations is governed by a commitment to championing local food economies. We connect directly with growers and producers at their farms, gardens and ranches, and carefully choose those purveyors who are responsible stewards of the land.
We have an on-site edible garden, and are longstanding supporters of urban gardening initiatives. We forage, pickle, cure, and preserve quality seasonal ingredients borrowing from traditional holistic culinary techniques to create a style of cuisine that is a thoroughly modern celebration of regional ingredients.
A uniquely stylish room, where modern cocktail culture is wrapped in old world charm. Our seasonally focused list of libations will warm the spirit and intrigue your palate. Taking our cue from Deane’s gracious hospitality, we invite you to drink in your surroundings. Old habits are encouraged here.
Built in 1906 on the Fort Calgary site, Deane House was built for Captain Richard Burton Deane, the last serving North West Mounted Police Superintendent in Calgary. Steeped in history, Deane House is located in Inglewood, at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers, in the heart of Blackfoot territory, once known as Moh’Kinsstis. The site was an important meeting place for the Indigenous peoples who have used this area for thousands of years as a place to hunt, camp and cross the river.
Deane House garden, grounds and historic house was redeveloped in 2015 by Fort Calgary Historic Preservation Society. The restaurant opened in 2016, redesigned and carefully curated by Sal Howell, founder of the iconic River Café, and long-time champion of seasonal, local, and sustainable food.
