Our History

Economy Glass was started in 1970 by Ian Viner as a complement to Superior Paint & Body Service. Its primary function was to supply windshields as well as side and back glass replacement for the body shop. This add-on made service faster and more seamless for both Superior Paint & Body, and its client base.
After a few years, Ian realized Economy Glass could be developed into a standalone company that was an “All Your Glass Needs” business. He created a residential glass department which could replace sealed window units, put in custom shower enclosures, build mirrored closet doors, mirrored walls, and create custom furniture, etc. This company really could handle any type of flat glass or mirror application a customer required.
Calgary in the late ’70s and early ’80s was booming. With so many commercial buildings going up, Ian saw the opportunity to add a commercial glass department to Economy Glass. It has grown to include many components, including aluminum storefront fabrication, custom sealed unit manufacturing, commercial door service, commercial door and window hardware, glass display cases, office interior glazing, swing stage installation, custom glass furniture and shelving, etc. Shortly after that, he added the 24-hour emergency service to help local businesses who were broken into or had other window damage.
Today Economy Glass continues to grow and prides itself on being able to supply any type of glass application a customer might require.
